Back to Hotel Guides

In recent years this city has increasingly become one of Europe's most popular, due to the availability of cheap hotels in Amsterdam and the unparalleled combination of its 'high-culture and decadence'. Unfortunately this has increasingly meant that Amsterdam's best and cheapest hotels book out quick, with hotel accommodation in the centre of town becoming particularily hard to find in the summer months or if booking at the last minute.

This being true, Amsterdam still has a fantastic variety of hotels on offer to suit every mood, from the cheap and cheerful hotels in the partying heart of the city to the stately canalside properties boasting backyard garden terraces and a great opportunity to relax, at least for a couple of hours! To book a cheap hotel in Amsterdam, just make sure you leave yourself enough time!!

You don't however need to stay in Dam Square to find cheap hotels in Amsterdam and to take advantage of all the city's attractions - built around 165 canals, which offer both a means to get around and living space for the large number of houseboats, Amsterdam is a great city to walk, cycle or cruise around and you will pass more than enough cafés and bars on your wanderings to sustain you!

The city comes alive in the summer months and the busiest time for hotels in Amsterdam is between April and October and of course Christmas and New Year, when booking accommodation well in advance is strongly advised if you want to get the best deals.

Tips;

If budget is key but you fancy treating yourself to some luxury you may want to consider some of the ample accommodation around Schiphol airport which is located 14km south-west of the city and is conveniently served by train, bus and taxi services. It is easy to get to the centre of Amsterdam from Schiphol Airport, or vice versa, by train from below Schiphol Plaza (the central hall of the airport). Trains leave for the city every ten minutes during the day and take 15-20 minutes to arrive. Alternatively it is just a half-hour car journey away along the A4/E10 highway.
