As the capital city of Spain Madrid has always been considered a focal point for business travel but more recently it has grown even further in popularity with the leisure traveller as the 'new Barcelona' - safer, cheaper and just as full of Spanish fiesta ambiance.

Barajas International airport is 13km east of Madrid and several large hotels have located themselves around the arterial route into Madrid.

Tips;

If visiting during the summer months you may be surprised at the ease of obtaining accommodation in Madrid hotels, but you should be aware the city gets extremely hot during high summer, to such an extent that many residents leave Madrid for the coast.
As a result hotel rates may not be subject to the usual summer inflation and your budget may take you further to a 4 or 5* hotel (where air-conditioning comes as standard!). Weekends, and the cooler months of April, May and September are particularly busy and it is best to book your hotel accommodation well in advance at these times.
