Milan offers extensive accommodation, much of it catering for visitors to the numerous trade fairs that take place in the city throughout the year. Naturally there is a good measure of extremely expensive accommodation - but then this is the world's fashion capital. If you're lucky, you'll find a good price at one of the handful of hotels located south of the Duomo.

These grand hotels are unrivalled in terms of convenience but vary in quality and levels of comfort. A slight difference in price can translate to a big difference in standards. There are plenty of high-quality hotels to the east of the city centre, although expect to pay more according to proximity to popular attractions such as the Teatro alla Scala.

Tips;

A lower priced range of hotels can be found north of the city centre, in the area surrounding Parco Sempione. Still only 15 minutes from the centre, the area is considerably quieter, and ideal for travellers who don't want to spend as much on accommodation.

The Concorde is a lovely 4 star hotel in a traditional Palazzo style. In a very nice location it offers easy access to all of Milans attractions either on foot or by public transport. The whole hotel was renovated a couple of years ago so it is of a very good standard. Excellent value for money.

Cervo - 3*
From just 68.00 GBP per twin/double room per night.
The Cervo is in the old part of town, close to the Duomo and both the shopping and business sectors of the city.Also recently renovated and in good upkeep it boasts a fantastic restaurant that has appeared in the Michilen Food Guide.
