 Travel Guide to Agadir

Agadir was under French rule from 1913 until Independence in 1954. As the main tourist resort in Morocco you'll find excellent facilities including fantastic white sandy beaches. The harbour and port area has a long history and still provides Agadir with trading income.

Charters operate in the holiday season, but Royal Air Moroc does offer cheap flights to Agadir at off-peak times. Check on our flight search for prices.

Sightseeing Attractions

Taroudant City - approx 81 km east of Agadir, located at the crossing of the Souss and High Atlas mountains. This 16th century town has ochre-coloured ramparts which offer shade and tranquillity during the hot midday period. The town has an efficient bus service and a variety of local crafts workshops where you can observe people at work. Shop outlets sell Berber jewels, pottery and textiles.

Tijnit - well worth visiting as the journey takes you through an oasis of pleasant agricultural countryside where local tribes fend for themselves by cultivating barley and almonds trees.

Beaches - Agadir's beaches face on to the Atlantic Ocean. There's over 16 km of sandy coastline offering the perfect place to sunbathe and relax. Take the opportunity to try big game fishing.

Atlas Mountains - in winter you can actually ski, but generally you'll get the best views by paragliding or treking.

Sahara Desert - with over 300,000 Km of sand, the area is used soley for hunting, air rallies, four -wheel dune driving, or trekking by camel.

Massa Oued Reserve - 51 Km from Agadir this 30.000 acre National Park of Souss Massa protects thousands of flamingos and ibis. The dunes bordering the shore and the nature reserve itself offer pleasant long walks.

Immouzer Des Ida Outanance - this delightful mountain region is dominated by little white houses and palm trees with a nearby waterfall called the Bride's Veil, because of the limescale it deposits on the walls. It is only viewable during the winter season.

Recommended Entertainment:

Agadir is primarily for holiday makers and the entertainment reflects that of a resort.

Night Clubs/Bars - Les Night Clubs/Bars/Discos - Biblos, Flamingo, Oasis, Paradesco and Atlas Club all provide lively entertainment.
Eating Out - There are over thirty restaurants on the Corniche serving all kinds of wonderful Moroccan food. Local recommended dishes include fresh sea food cooked in a variety of ways, but also try out other Moroccan delicacies, such as chicken and oranges stewed in a earthenware pot.
