 Travel Guide to Marrakesh

Marrakesh, the city from which it is said Morocco derived its name, has magnificant palaces, mosques, gardens and the Koronic School. Year-round sunshine adds to its tourist draw, as much as the long history of the region. Sightseeing Attractions:

Dar Si Said Museum - this museum exhibits the best of Morroccan heritage including collections of fine jewellery, carpets, textiles and other artefacts. This fine building has beautifully painted walls and crafted sash windows.

Majorelle
- situated in the former studio of the french painter Jacques Majorelle, the museum houses a wonderful collection of Islamic art and is built around a beautiful garden.

Medersa
- the superb Koranic school founded by the Merinde Sultan Abou el-Hasssan.

Saadien Tombs
- here lies the tomb of Ahmed el Mansour (1578-1603), Marrakesh's most celebrated ruler. He is known for trading treasures of gold, marble and onyx in exchange for sugar.

Badii Palace
- this royal palace includes the Adgal orchards, a fine collection of plants, flowers and fruits. The aroma of these plants fill the air with a sweet perfumed fragrance. Each year the garden holds an annual arts festival.

Bahia Palace
- in this ruined palace you'll find beautiful ceramic courtyards patterned with turquiose, green and white colours.

Waddi Mehasseur
- this vast water area of the Ouzoud Falls plunges through the 100 metre natural "Imi-n-Ifri" bridge and ends with the water settling in the artificial Ait-Aadel lake surrounded by bare, red coloured hills.

Recommended Entertainment:

Night Clubs - New Feelings at the Golf Palmaeries and Paradise at Mansour Eddahla are considered the top clubs.

Bars
- Cotton Club, New Feelings, Paradise at Mansour Eddahla, - again recommended places to go legally for a drink.

Discos
- Cotton Club at Hotel Tropica, Le Decimont Nose.

Traditional
- your hotel tour desk can organise excursions that include traditional Moroccan entertainment, such as belly dancing and Eastern Banquets.

Eating Out
- Meknes restaurants serve traditional Moroccan food, such as couscous and Tangine (usually meat or chicken baked in cone shaped clay dish). You'll find international style restaurants also, from Italian to Indian. Eating locally is cheap.
